We caught up with Jim Watt, Managing Director of AMT Intercargo based in Dyce, Aberdeen, to find out what value he is getting from IT Hotdesk, why he chose to outsource his company’s IT, and his advice for other businesses searching for a new IT partner.
How long have you been working with IT Hotdesk, and what does the team do for your business?
“We have been working with IT Hotdesk for almost 10 years now. We did a review, decided to change suppliers and have stuck with the team ever since - as we are happy with the service provided.
“IT Hotdesk manages all of our IT - from our servers and back-ups, to all the desktop machines. They are essentially our outsourced IT team, and take care of everything.
“Our business has evolved quite a lot over the last 10 years, and IT Hotdesk has scaled with us.”
What value does the IT Hotdesk team deliver, and what have you been impressed with?
“They are very proactive in helping us - both with breakdowns and issues, to help us get back up and running, but also with future improvements and recommendations.
“They helped us a lot with disaster recovery - evaluating what we really needed to strengthen our business continuity. And we receive a consistently good service.
“We also have quarterly meetings with Gordon, where he comes out and we discuss plans, challenges and improvement opportunities.”
Why did you choose to outsource your IT?
“IT is critical for our businesses, as most of what we do is electronic. Without effective IT, we wouldn’t survive - we need it to keep our business running.
“However we prefer someone else looks after this for us, so we can focus on our own business. We want to focus on what we’re good at, and contract experts for things that aren’t in our core services.”
What is your top tip for someone thinking about outsourcing their IT, or switching service provider?
“Don’t always go for the cheapest option. It doesn’t always work out.”
