Next up in our Meet The Team is one of our IT Systems Technician’s Craig Collie . Let’s hear what he likes most about working at IT Hotdesk and his fondness for Canada!
How long have you been part of the ITHD team?
Nearly 5 years. It will be coming up to my anniversary in October this year. The time has flown by!
What do you like about working at ITHD?
I have to say what I most like about working here is my work colleague’s. We are such a tight knit team & we all muddle in together when needed. Also, two days are rarely, if ever, the same so I really enjoy the diversity of work.
How do you troubleshoot IT issues?
Try the simplest solution first. More, often than not the simplest solution is the answer.
Tell me about a project you are most proud of?
The installation of a replacement server at one of our clients Kitchens International in Glasgow. Every part of it went smoothly and the server was installed with the site operational a day earlier than planned. I was delighted the job went well and the client was really pleased which is of course gave me great satisfaction.
What are you currently watching on netflix?
A combination of David Suchets take on Poirot, First Dates and Young Sheldon. I like the variety of watching a few rather than going through a complete box set at a time. Although I recently watched The Crown and was hooked and couldn’t wait to see the next. The actors were brilliant at recreating the characters & I found the history of our royalty really fascinating.
Where is your favourite place in the world?
Recently I went to Canada on my honeymoon, we visited a few places and we found every city had something different to offer. I loved seeing where the grand prix track was in Montreal, visiting the CN tower in Toronto, the military museum in Ottawa and of course Niagara Falls which was amazing to see. We can’t wait to go back as we still have so much that we never fitted in.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
My favourite thing would be playing boardgames. I love Twilight Struggle which is a two-player game about the warfare between the Soviet Union and the United States. You are basically reliving events on a board game!
Pandemic as another one I enjoy which in which all team players try to wipe out diseases that have broken out into the world. Rather than being competitive its about working as a team which is different to most board games and really gets you to interact with the players.
I also enjoy learning about Cold War History, discovering scenic driving routes and watching Formula 1!
