Next up in our Meet The Team is one of our IT System Technician’s Josh Greig. Let’s find out what he most enjoys about his work and hear about his passion for flying!

Title: IT Systems Technician

How long have you been part of the ITHD team?

I have been at IT Hotdesk for 18 months and I am thoroughly enjoying my time within the team so far. My role is very fast paced, and I have to juggle various tasks daily, which can be stimulating and challenging at the same time.  It certainly keeps me on my toes!

Tell me about your current role?

Generally, the duties of my position include a wide range of support activities from managing complex response issues via the helpdesk to trialling new technologies as well as the management and implementation of infrastructure related projects.

Over the past few months I have been actively involved in configuring and implementing our new in-house Professional Services Automation (PSA) solution which will allow the team at IT Hotdesk to continue improving our project management, resource planning and most importantly, time keeping using a robust work management tool.

What do you most enjoy about the work you do?

I always like to get stuck into new challenges and issues being logged by clients.  I really enjoy problem solving and revel in the more difficult enquiries as I enjoy being tested.   I get great fulfilment when I solve a complex issue.  I am an active learner so enjoy learning something new, whether that is about myself or how to tackle an IT issue.

What is something you learned in the last week?

I’m currently studying for a Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate certification and I recently took part in a training course in preparation for my exam, which looked into the infrastructure and how to deploy Microsoft Azure into an organisation’s IT network.

I learned a great deal on the course about the platform which is a cloud service and allows organisations to micromanage an array of Microsoft services and applications in one place.

How do you think your colleagues see you?

We are a close bunch here at IT Hotdesk and I work closely with the wider team regularly, so I would say that my colleagues would view me as a team player and valuable member of the organisation.  Overall, the IT Hotdesk ethos is very open and friendly, and everyone is willing to pitch in and help each other.

What are the values that drive you?

The main personal value that I live by is to always strive to do your best. I believe that everything I do should be given 100% effort, how ever big or small the task at hand is.

Where is your favourite place in the world?

The sky! This might seem like a strange answer, I have always had an interest and passion for aviation and flying from a young age. I have always had a keen interest in all aspects of aviation and was a cadet and am now a volunteer staff member in the Royal Air Force Air Cadets.

I have piloted a small aircraft solo and I love the freedom and peacefulness when you are up in the air.
